Denmead Scout Troop News & Events:
Dinosaur Derby 2007 The Biggest Yet!

This year’s annual Dinosaur Derby was held on Sunday 9th September in glorious sunshine. Summer had finally come to Denmead!
In the weeks before, volunteers had built and painted new dinosaurs and sold programmes door to door in the village.
There was excitement in the morning as a large group of travellers moved into the next field, that we normally use for parking. The field owners & a large police contingent sorted the problem and by mid afternoon our visitors had left.
At 1pm a queue had formed at the gate and within the first hour of opening we had run out of parking space and the field was full of families queuing for face painting, caving, tote tickets, tea, burgers and various side shows. We have never seen quite so many people at the Derby before and all seemed to be having a great time.
The success of the Derby is due to the great support we get from leaders and parents in the Group. Without them an event of this size would not be possible. Initial estimates give a fund-raising total for this year’s Derby at £4,700 – our best yet!
All the money raised goes towards helping the group to run 2 Beaver Colonies, 2 Cub Packs, 2 Scout Troops and an Explorer Unit for a total of 150 youngsters.
This year is the Centenary of Scouting and the activities and challenges provided by Scouting today are just as exciting and rewarding as they were 100 years ago.
Thanks go to all the Dinosaur Derby Committee members, Leaders and parents who helped make this year’s event the success it obviously was.
